This is pretty much what a US-based company called Nomad is promising. In fact, they sent me two of their latest products to try.

Four Activity Trackers sold for every Smartwatch, according to ABI Research
Wearable device sales in the first quarter of 2014 were dominated by ‘activity trackers’, according to a new report from ABI Research.
It says these fitness-related devices outsold smartwatches by four to one.

Figures from digital marketing specialist eMarketer anticipate a 25% year-on-year growth in the number of smartphone owners worldwide.
By the end of 2014, the company expects that 1.76 billion people will own smartphones and use them at least once a month.

Information from the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) shows that 4G LTE technology has reached a new milestone. In total, there are now 300 commercial LTE networks available in 107 countries worldwide, with 35 networks already launched this year.
Last year, 4G LTE service was available in just 76 countries.

The European Commission has opened three investigations to examine whether tax authorities have made appropriate decisions about corporate tax paid by Apple in Ireland, Starbucks in the Netherlands and Fiat Finance and Trade in Luxembourg.
It’s launched the investigation following media reports that suggest that some companies have received significant tax reductions through ‘tax rulings’ issued by national tax authorities.
