VoIP service and virtual mobile network Truphone is cutting its costs for internet-based calls. From yesterday, VoIP calls to its 37 most popular calling destinations were reduced by at least 50%. This brings the cost of calls to the USA, UK, France, Australia and Canada down to just 1.3p per minute.

Last month we reported that the flagship Motorola Droid smartphone was being replaced in the USA by the Droid 2. Motorola has now confirmed that the European version of the Droid – the Motorola Milestone – is also being updated.

It looks as though the Nokia N8 smartphone will be dispatched to UK customers from 23rd September, according to a sponsored link on Google. However, there's currently no pre-order option on the Nokia UK website and there's been no official confirmation from the company yet.

Dublin-based mobile messaging company Openmind Networks has launched a VoIP service that can be integrated with a customer's existing mobile phone number. The service, called Portico, is being deployed by a European carrier using their own brand (which is probably why Openmind isn't naming names).
