Vodafone MVNOs can now order SIM cards by text message

Mobile information and entertainment company WIN plc has announced it's working to improve Vodafone's services to mobile virtual network operators. Current UK MVNOs include Asda, Talk Mobile, BT Mobile, Truphone and Lebara.

The partnership enables new customers on Vodafone-hosted MVNOs to request a SIM by simply sending a text to a shortcode. WIN's SMS platform then manages a short dialogue with the consumer, obtaining and recording their name and address before the SIM card is posted directly to them.

First ELSE mobile phone is no more

The Linux-based First ELSE mobile device – a mobile phone that was being built by ELSE Mobile in partnership with Access Co. and Sharp Corporation – is no more. The phone was unveiled in November 2009 and was exhibited at Mobile World Congress earlier this year. (Click here to listen to our February podcast interview with Amir Kupervas, CEO of ELSE Mobile).
