Smartphone users are 'appy in bed

New research from the Ericsson ConsumerLab team has found that found that an increasing number of consumers are using their smartphones to go online before getting out of bed.

35% of Android and iPhone users in the USA said they interacted with non-voice apps before getting up, with almost a fifth of social networking users connecting with Facebook friends while in bed.

European mobile voice and data traffic will grow 67-fold in next ten years

The volume of mobile voice and data traffic in the average Western European country will grow by 67 times - from 186 Terabytes per day to 12,540 TB daily - between 2010 and 2020, according to a new report from the UMTS Forum.

Worldwide total traffic on mobile networks is expected to increase 33-fold to an annual total of 127 Exabytes in 2020.

Chiltern Railways launches paperless mobile tickets

Chiltern Railways has launched a mobile ticketing system that enables passengers to use their mobile phone for buying, receiving and validating train tickets.

It's believed to be the first time that rail passengers have been able to use any mobile phone to buy and receive rail tickets in a single transaction. Passengers can use their phone to buy a ticket and to pass through the barrier.
