Mobile banking will generate around 90 billion text messages in 2015

Juniper Research expects the number of SMS mobile banking alerts to rise from 30 billion this year to almost 90 billion per year by 2015. That's one message every two days for the average mobile banking customer.

Microsoft announces new games for Windows Phone 7

New smartphones running the Windows Phone 7 operating system are expected within just a few weeks. In anticipation, Microsoft has announced a batch of around 50 mobile games at gaming showcase gamescom 2010 – and has also explained more about the way their phones will link with the Xbox LIVE online service. As well as new games and versions of popular classics there'll also be companion titles to familiar Xbox 360 games.

New Nokia X3 combines conventional keypad with touchscreen

Nokia has revealed its first mobile phone to combine a conventional keypad with a touch-sensitive screen. The Nokia X3 Touch and Type is expected to go on sale in Q3 2010 for around 125 Euro SIM-free, which isn't far off £125 by the time you've added VAT.

Qualcomm dual-core 1.5GHz chips could be in phones this year

Qualcomm's new dual-core QSD8672 Snapdragon chip, which can run at up to 1.5GHz, will start shipping in the fourth quarter of 2010, the company said yesterday. This means manufacturers could release 1.5GHz smartphones by Christmas, although early 2011 seems more likely.
