Yahoo! Livestand, the personalised iPad ‘newsstand’ that was announced just over a year ago and launched in November, is being closed down.
The company says it’s moving to a mobile-first development model and is applying its insights from Livestand to the development of future products.

IDC research shows growth after 9 months of decline
The mobile phone market in Western Europe has started growing again, according to new figures from the International Data Corporation.
Its European Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker shows a 1.3% year-on-year increase in shipments to 44.8 million units following three consecutive quarters of decline.

Figures published by the RAC last week show an increase in drivers using drugs, mobile emailing and social networking. The organisation’s 2012 Report on Motoring found that the number of 17 to 24 year olds driving under the influence of drugs had increased from 5% to 9% in the past twelve months.
It also noted a 50% year-on-year increase in the number of 25 to 44 year olds using their smartphones to access email, Facebook and Twitter when behind the wheel.

Technology and network specialist Cisco says it’s stopped investing in the Cisco Cius tablet form factor and doesn’t plan any further enhancements for the current Cius device.
The Android-powered tablet has apparently been overtaken by the ‘bring your own device’ trend, with companies enabling employees to use their own tablet devices rather than investing in a corporate product.

LG Electronics says sales of its LTE smartphones have reached three million units worldwide.
The phones, which are currently available in 10 countries, will be available in 20 countries by the end of the year.
