Sandwich franchise Subway has launched a discount voucher scheme within the O2 More ‘You Are Here’ location-based advertising service.
Customers who’ve opted-in to receive marketing information will receive a MMS message when they’re near a Subway store. The message will offer a discount and will contain a square barcode - a QR code - that can be scanned by store staff.
Tom Hosking, head of O2 More, said “Subway has a great attitude to mobile and partnering with such a recognisable brand that is devoted to contactless technology has allowed us the chance to offer this industry first in voucher redemption. Completing the whole customer journey by being able to offer redemption figures to our clients is an important breakthrough for O2 Media.”
It’s thought to be the first time barcode recognition has been combined with a location-based messaging service.
