Vodafone takes control of mobile coupon business Vouchercloud

Vodafone Group has taken a controlling stake in Invitation Digital Limited, the parent company of mobile coupon provider Vouchercloud. It now has a 57% stake in IDL, having originally taken a 21% stake in May last year.

The news came as Vouchercloud expanded beyond the UK into Ireland. Further country launches, along with details of Vouchercloud integration into Vodafone m-commerce activities, are expected in the future.

Tobin Ireland, Commercial Development Director at Vodafone, said “Mobile couponing is set to grow rapidly across Vodafone's businesses as cost-conscious consumers increasingly turn to their smartphones to hunt for bargains and collect loyalty points. We look forward to working more closely with Vouchercloud in future as m-commerce services become ever more central to consumers' daily lives.”

Vouchercloud lets customers download discounts, codes and vouchers to their phones. Its app uses GPS to locate participating retailers and guides the customer to the shop using an on-screen map. 1.8 million people are currently registered to use Vouchercloud; 700,000 of them are described as active users.
