Last year we reported on the creation of Facebook Places, a location-sharing service that allows users to 'check in' to places they visit.

Today Facebook has added to the service with the announcement of Facebook Deals in the UK. It’s linked to the Places service, offering discounts and special offers to customers who visit participating venues. Comparisons have already been made with location-based Foursquare and discount service Groupon.

To use Facebook Deals, customers simply use Facebook on their mobile phone, check in to their current location and look for nearby deals on-screen. Deals can be redeemed by checking in to the advertiser's location and showing the retailer the on-screen confirmation.

Has anyone ever tried buying anything off grouponbot .com ? Does it work even if your not in the same city?
