Doro has revealed two new easy-to-use mobile phones at Mobile World Congress this week.

The Doro PhoneEasy 622 is a clamshell feature phone. It’s Doro’s highest-spec feature phone, offering a home-screen weather application and the ability to record video via the 2 megapixel camera.

Fujitsu Limited is planning its first major smartphone move outside Japan with the STYLISTIC S01, a handset designed for senior users that’ll initially be available via Orange in France from June 2013.

It's an Android-powered device with a 1.4GHz chip, a 4-inch screen and an 8.1-megapixel camera.

This is a phrase I seem to be using more and more frequently, either out loud to bright young things or silently to myself in utter frustration of modern ‘must have’ gadgets.

In this special feature we're talking to Chris Millington, Doro's MD for UK and Ireland. Doro, which produces easy-to-use mobile phones for older people, is releasing its first touch-screen smartphone this month.

As well as explaining the phone's benefits, Chris also describes the advantages of Doro's tablet and PC software. In addition, we take a few minutes to look at Doro's plans for the future.

This was going to be my best-ever mobile phone review... and I wasn’t even going to use the handset. But all my plans fell apart because my mother wouldn’t let me do it.

Don’t get me wrong, I hadn’t planned an elaborate ‘theatre-not-journalism’ piece of creative writing and I’m not tied to anyone’s apron strings. I was going to give mum a mobile phone to test.

Mark Windle, head of marketing at OpenCloud, predicts that this year’s reduction in the number of traditional telecoms operators in some countries will provide an opportunity for other operators to innovate and capture market share in 2016.

He says next year will be a year of rapid change for telecoms… whether it’s MVNO disruption, competitive tariff pricing or simply defence from the ‘dark art’ of hacking.
