BlackBerry Messenger now available from within applications

Research in Motion has announced that BBM - the BlackBerry Messenger instant messaging service - is now going to be available from within certain applications.

The new version 6 of BBM will work with ‘BBM connected’ apps , enabling users to interact with friends from within the app itself. For example, a BBM connected game would let users invite friends or chat in real-time while the game is being played.

Alistair Mitchell, VP of BBM Platform & Integrated Services at Research In Motion, said “BBM 6 marks the beginning of an even greater social experience for BlackBerry smartphone users. It also represents an incredible opportunity for developers to leverage the viral nature of the BBM service and we have already begun working with various developer partners who will be bringing their BBM connected apps to BlackBerry App World this week, offering users highly engaging app experiences.”

Foursquare, Poynt and Telmap are expected to be among the first applications to integrate BBM 6. There’s also prize for the developer who creates the ‘Most Addictive social app using the BBM Social Platform’.
