New Doro smartphone for seniors includes built-in 'coaching' feature

Doro, the Swedish company best known for its easy-to-use handsets, has launched a new smartphone. The Doro Liberto 820 is designed for older users who may need additional support or encouragement with their mobile device.

There’s a coaching feature embedded into all the main applications on the device, offering advice, set-up assistance and suggestions for next steps. In addition, a remote management service called ‘My Doro Manager’ enables family members or friends to help the user set up their smartphone.

Running Android v4.4, the Doro Liberto 820 offers full access to Google Play. Other features include an assistance button, physical keys for ‘home’, ‘back’ and camera functions, HD voice and hearing aid compatibility.

Chris Millington, UK and Ireland Managing Director at Doro, said “Our new smartphone is ideal for the growing number of seniors who want to embark upon their digital journey - but don’t want to feel a burden by relying on busy family members for help and advice. The introduction of our new coaching function means that for the first time, Doro users will be able to take their time, learn at their own pace and have a companion that helps them get the most from their mobile.  Doro Liberto products are all about empowering, enabling and liberating – this new smartphone is the very best example of our philosophy.”

The product will be available in the UK and Ireland, with retail and network partners due to be revealed in the next few weeks.

Doro also introduced a new clamshell feature phone earlier this month. Unlike many other non-smartphones, the Doro Liberto 650 includes an email client. It’s priced at £110 SIM-free and is being sold from Doro’s own online store.

At Mobile World Congress 2014 we spoke to Doro and Emporia Telecom about producing mobile phones for older customers. Our family switched to Doro phones as the Emporia phones break and the software often freezes. Looking forward to the new Doro phones this year.
