Google announces free navigation service for Android phones

One day it’s a rumour, the next it’s reality. Google has just announced a beta version of Google Maps Navigation for smartphones running Android 2.0. It uses information from Google Maps to create a 3D sat nav service with turn-by-turn voice guidance and automatic rerouting. It also includes Google’s voice search and live traffic data. The service is currently only available in the USA, not least because the new Motorola Droid from Verizon Wireless is the first handset to run Android 2.0.
