The video-to-mobile challenge: a technical seminar

Mark Bridge writes:

The future of mobile technology is inextricably linked with video… or is it the other way round?

Ericsson’s latest Mobility Report, which was published this week, shows that mobile video traffic is growing 55% annually and will represent the majority of all mobile data traffic by 2019.

But whose problem is it - and what should be done?

Some of the answers will be discussed next week at a seminar being run by the Digital TV Group (DTG), which is the industry association for digital television in the UK. It’s invited Dr Mike Short CBE, Vice President of Telefonica Europe, to give a keynote presentation entitled ‘Mobilising video – how to respond to demand’.

There’ll then be presentations from Andy Bell (Channel 4/4oD), who’s talking about processing video for mobile devices, from Philip White of Ericsson who’ll explain compression technologies, from the BBC’s Andrew Murphy about broadcasting across mobile networks and from James Rosewell, founder of 51degrees.mobi, on the options for delivering video via a web browser. All this will be followed by a Q&A session.

It’s a rare opportunity to hear viewpoints from across the mobile and video industries.

The seminar runs from 1pm until 4.30pm on Monday 18th November 2013 in London. Please contact the DTG if you’d like to attend.

James Rosewell will have a report from the seminar on TheFonecast.com next week.
