Dixons Retail and Carphone Warehouse in merger talks

Dixons Retail plc and Carphone Warehouse plc have confirmed they’re are in preliminary discussions about a possible merger.

Dixons operates over 1,100 stores under the Currys and PC World brands across 16 countries, while Carphone Warehouse has around 2,000 stores but a smaller European footprint.

Each company emphasises that these discussions “are at a very preliminary stage”.

According to the rules administered by the Takeover Panel, they two companies need to either announce a firm offer or confirm they won’t be making an offer by 24th March.
