New 'Shatoetry' app lets users send messages in William Shatner's voice

Mark Bridge writes:

Look, I’m a fan of William Shatner. I enjoyed his autobiography on oh-so-many levels. And now the man known to many as Captain Kirk or T J Hooker has launched an iPhone app. It’s one of the few occasions I wish I had an iPhone.

I’m not sure this is really ‘news’ but… well… the app costs £1.99 and the official press release is below.

William Shatner Releases Spoken Word App “Shatoetry”

William Shatner, world-renowned performer and writer, has launched Shatoetry, a celebrity smartphone app unlike any other. For the past 35 years, Shatner has built a body of spoken word works that has become revered by his global fanbase. Now, Shatner brings the brilliance of his spoken word to iPhones everywhere.

Those who purchase the app can choose from a library of pre-recorded words to create unique "Shatisms," which are then played out in Shatner's voice. "People all over the world have been listening to my voice for so long, but they've only ever heard what I wanted to say," says Shatner. "I wanted to give people a means to express their thoughts and ideas, using my voice. It's a fun, creative app that I am certain people will enjoy."

Mr. Shatner promises that Shatoetry is unlike any other celebrity app. Shatoetry co-creator Lev Chapelsky of Blindlight Apps explains, "This is one of the first apps to extend a celebrity brand in such a meaningful, interactive way. It makes the celebrity's creativity truly interactive for the app user." Shatner adds, "Every time I use it, I enjoy it more and more."

Multiple users, which Shatner calls "Shatoetists," can co-create Shatisms together in the app's co-op mode and collaborate online. Advanced users may use it to compose poetry and haiku. However, according to Chapelsky, the more practical and fun creations are simple sentences, phrases, word juxtapositions, and even singular words spoken by Shatner, which can be sent as messages, comments, and communications to friends.

Updates are in the works, including word packs for holidays and special occasions, performance contributions from special guest stars and other surprises.
