Predictions for Connected Homes in 2015

Predictions for Connected Homes in 2015

Jon Carter of Deutsche Telekom has provided us with his ‘Connected Home’ predictions for 2015:

Connected home products and services rely on different communication standards, be it ZigBee, HomeMatic or Z-Wave. Customers don’t want to be limited in their product choices or care about compatibility issues. Integrating any device into a connected home setup needs to be smooth and simple.

iZettle mobile payment devices now on sale across the UK in Maplin stores

Mobile payment provider iZettle has announced that its Chip & PIN readers are now available to buy from Maplin electronics stores across the UK.

The card reader, which allows users to accept debit or credit card payments via a Bluetooth connection to their smartphones or tablets, is being sold for £59.99. It’s capable of connecting to Apple iOS or Android devices.

iZettle launched in the UK two years ago, offering an app-based service that enables small businesses and sole traders to take card payments without set-up fees or annual contracts. Instead, business owners buy the iZettle device, download the free app and just pay per transaction.

Jens Munch, iZettle’s Managing Director for the UK, said “It’s fantastic to bring iZettle directly to Maplin’s customers. We know that Maplin’s staff are the perfect fit to sell iZettle because they share our passion for gadgets and technology. Now anyone can walk into Maplin and buy all the technology they need to set up a business. Whether you are trying to monetise your hobby or start your dream company, iZettle gives you the tools that were previously only available for large businesses.”

As well as being available in the UK, iZettle also operates in Brazil, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Mexico, Norway, Spain and Sweden.
