Tesco reveals own-brand hudl2 Android tablet

Second generation of the Tesco hudl tablet

Tesco has announced the successor to its hudl tablet, which is now a year old. The new hudl2 has a larger screen, a faster processor and a choice of eight colours.

It’ll run Android v4.4.2 on an 1.83GHz Intel quad-core processor. There’s an 8.3-inch (1920 x 1200 pixel) screen, stereo loudspeakers, a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera and 16GB of expandable storage.

A parental filter allows parents to customise the settings for up to seven family members, while blinkbox, Clubcard and Tesco.com services can also be tailored to individual users.

As with the previous model, the hudl2 is a WiFi-only device.

Availability in the UK is from 9th October with a price of £129, although customers can redeem Tesco Clubcard loyalty vouchers against part of the price.

Michael Comish, Group Digital Officer at Tesco, said “We know customers want easy, accessible technology that the whole family can use whether working, shopping, gaming, learning or just taking some time out. Cutting-edge technology doesn’t have to come with a big price tag. hudl2 may be affordable, but we’ve cut no corners when it comes to performance - this is our best tablet offering yet.”

Tesco says it’s sold 750,000 of the original hudl tablets since last September.
