Mark Bridge writes:

Those quarterly figures keep coming. In our Wednesday podcast we talked about Apple and Nokia – and since then we’ve heard from Everything Everywhere, LG, Motorola, Samsung (with its multi-million selling Galaxy S II), Telefonica and Virgin Media. Each had something positive to stay, although some were more convincing than others.

Burnside Telecom: the largest mobile phone manufacturer

Mark Bridge writes:

You could probably describe Burnside Telecom as the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer. No, not production volumes - but the physical size of its products.

This UK-based designer and manufacturer produces a variety of mobile devices, from office-style 'desktop mobile phones' to the type of rugged outdoor telephone used at railway crossings.

New study finds no increased cancer risk for children using mobile phones

Mark Bridge writes:

This week at The Fonecast: 23rd July 2011

Mark Bridge writes:

We've had a week packed with financial figures. Microsoft, Vodafone and Qualcomm were all relatively upbeat with their quarterly results. A 'thrilled' Apple shipped over 20 million iPhones in yet another record quarter, while Nokia shipped less than 17 million smartphones (and almost 72 million other mobile phones) in its 'disappointing' quarter.

Cloud-based POS specialist Vend partners with mobile payment provider iZettle

Cloud-based point-of-sale specialist Vend has announced a partnership with mobile payment provider iZettle.

It’s integrating the iZettle credit card reader with the Vend Register iPad App, making it easier for retailers to take payments without using a traditional cash register.

Vend’s software is already used in over 15,000 stores worldwide. It’s available on any computer or tablet device with a web browser and offers a combination of customer management, inventory management and business reporting. With iZettle’s card reader, it can now be used for taking secure debit card or credit card payments without the need to manually enter prices on a cash register or card terminal.

The new solution is available in the UK, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Mexico and Brazil.

John Coulston, Vice President of Sales at Vend, said “We want to make life as easy as possible for retailers. Our partnership with iZettle creates an incredibly flexible platform, which is simple to set-up, manage and customise.  It also improves the experience for shoppers, slashing queuing time and enabling them to make purchases from sales assistants as they move around the store.”
