Two reasons Microsoft will buy Nokia

James Rosewell writes:

Microsoft have been talking about Mango, the upcoming upgrade to Windows Phone 7 incorporating their battery-friendly flavour of multi-tasking and 499 other new features. They've also welcomed Fujitsu, Acer and ZTE to the Windows Phone fold. However there was no significant news from Nokia and Microsoft. No timeframe for handsets, nothing in fact. Both companies are being tight lipped about the partnership at the moment.

The phenomenon of 'apocalypse sex' is often seen in movies, comedy shows and advertisements. The end of the world's just around the corner so… hey… what the heck?

I reckon it shares the same emotional basis as being 'demob happy' or having that 'end of term feeling' at school.

John Allan leaves Dixons Carphone for Tesco

Mr Allan became chairman of Dixons Retail in 2009 and was in this role when the company merged with Carphone Warehouse in August 2014. He’d previously been CEO of Exel Logistics and CFO of Deutsche Post. He’s currently also chairman of Barratt Developments and of WorldPay; positions he’s expected to continue in.

Patrick Cescau, senior independent director at Tesco, said “Following a deep and thorough process run by a committee of independent non-executive directors, the Board unanimously agreed that John Allan was the right candidate to chair Tesco at this important time. On behalf of the Board I would like to thank Richard for his work as Chairman. He has served the business with unflinching commitment through a period of unprecedented change, and put in place a new senior leadership team for the next stage of Tesco's development.”
