Mark Bridge writes:

RIM and Sony Ericsson each reveal a new product within 24 hours. One has a 7-inch screen and a big announcement at the company's developer conference. The other, with a 1.3-inch micro-display, has a lower-key launch. Yet it's the similarities that have attracted my attention.

Let's stop being so girly about mobile phones

Mark Bridge writes:

I remember the 1980s. In fact, I rather enjoyed them. Hang on a sec, hear me out. There really was some good stuff there – not least the renaissance of "sisters doin' it for themselves". Oh, and the launch of the UK's first cellular mobile phone network.

iZettle creates pop-up London store to showcase mobile-based payment technology

Competition launched to find final company to trade from the shop

Mobile payment provider iZettle is creating a ‘12 Hour Store’ in central London that’ll give six small businesses the opportunity of trading from one of the world’s busiest shopping districts.

It’s opening a pop-up shop at 36 South Molton Street from 27th October until 1st November 2014. Each company will be able to trade for a single 12-hour period from 9am until 9pm, with their credit and debit card payments powered by iZettle’s mobile-based technology. Five companies have already been selected but the final day, Saturday 1st November, will see a competition winner chosen to move in.

Businesses that would like the chance to trade from London at the start of the Christmas shopping period are invited to sign up for an iZettle account, visit www.12hourstore.com and say why they deserve to win. Entries will be judged by a panel of experts including Carphone Warehouse founder Charles Dunstone, former Tech City CEO Eric Van Der Kleij and Jacob de Geer, co-founder and CEO of iZettle.

The competition closes at midnight on 23rd October 2014.

Johan Bendz, Chief Marketing Officer at iZettle, said “Our vision is to empower small businesses to grow and prosper. We live and breathe our vision and make sure it permeates everything we do from product development right through to our marketing efforts. From a product point of view we develop game-changing services and apps, from a marketing point of view we are giving small businesses a taste of their prosperous future. With the help of iZettle the small businesses now get to trade for 12 hours in a temporary store just off Oxford Street. Maybe tomorrow they will become a permanent retail feature in central London.”

The Monday-Friday line-up for the 12 Hour Store is Boskke, Braw Scotland, Fox+Belle, Bluebird and Iam Vibes.
