Google has acquired the Zagat Survey restaurant guide business. The company says Zagat will become a cornerstone of its ‘local’ offering, providing Google users with reviews, ratings and insights.

Zagat was founded by Tim and Nina Zagat more than 32 years ago, expanding to operate in more than 100 cities worldwide.

ExclusiveGetJar Gold gives away premium Android apps

Independent app store GetJar has introduced a new scheme called GetJar Gold.

It enables users to download premium applications they’d have to pay up to $10 for on other app stores. Unlike other promotional offers, new premium apps are added to GetJar Gold every day and remain on the store.

ExclusiveThree UK makes European complaint about mobile payment joint venture

The recently-formed mobile payment and mobile advertising partnership between Everything Everywhere, O2 and Vodafone is reportedly the subject of a legal complaint to the European Directorate General for Competition.

The joint venture, which was announced in June, didn’t include Three UK among its founders - although they said it was welcome to join.
