ExclusiveOfcom publishes new research on mobile 'not-spot' coverage information

Ofcom has published some updated research on mobile not-spots, the areas in the UK where mobile coverage is poor or unavailable.

It's found that the coverage checkers provided by mobile networks are based on data that is 'reasonably accurate' for outdoor predictions, noting that the checkers are freely provided online and in-store.

ExclusivePicocells expected to generate £5 billion by 2016

The market for outdoor picocells - tiny 'cell sites' that mobile network operators can attach to electricity poles, lamp posts, and rooftops - is expected to reach $8 billion in global revenue by 2016, according to ABI Research.

Having started to deploy microcells and picocells, operators now need to need to ensure that 'small cell' backhaul doesn't adversely affect overall OPEX or CAPEX, according to the report.
