Afilias adds .mobi domains to its .info operation

Internet company Afilias, which runs the .info domain service, has acquired the company that runs the .mobi top-level domain. It'll continue operating dotMobi (known officially as mTLD Top Level Domain Ltd) as a subsidiary.

T-Mobile UK customers get smarter phones without an upgrade

T-Mobile UK has announced that it's trialling iSkoot Notifier, a free mobile application that allows customers to simplify their social networking. iSkoot Notifier is available as a free download and doesn't need a 'smartphone'; it'll work on a range of feature phones including the Sony Ericsson W595, Sony Ericsson W705 and Sony Ericsson W995 (all of which support T-Mobile's new 'virtual menu').

iSkoot Notifier is based on proprietary technology from San Francisco-based iSkoot that's already being used by social media apps on AT&T and Verizon Wireless in the US. It's called the Kalaida Mobile Web Services Platform and only requires a single user name and password, with its optimised connection reducing data costs.
