BlackBerry has demonstrated a new ‘over the air’ service that would allow car and commercial vehicle manufacturers to update vehicle software remotely.
The machine-to-machine (M2M) ‘Software Update Management for Automotive’ service takes advantage of the secure infrastructure that delivers software updates to BlackBerry devices.

Nokia has had a busy few days. First came the Asha 501, a ‘smartphone lite’ that introduced developers to a new version of the company’s Asha platform. This was followed by the Lumia 928, which is a Windows Phone 8 handset exclusive to Verizon Wireless in the USA. It’s quite like the Nokia 920, so we’re not missing out too much.

The UK government says the roll-out of ‘smart meters’ for gas and electricity supplies will now begin in autumn 2015, according to the Department of Energy & Climate Change. This work had previously been expected to start from next summer.
The completion date for all UK homes and businesses to have smart meters has also been moved.

New figures from ABI Research show there are more than 10 billion devices with wireless connections today.
This figure is expected to treble in the next seven years, reaching over 30 billion devices by 2020.

Telefónica Digital and Dell have signed an agreement to provide new Windows 7 and Windows 8 devices with built-in SIM cards.
It means that customers buying a Dell tablet or notebook computer will be able to set up an O2 ‘pay as you go’ data service immediately.
