Barclaycard offers stick-on NFC credit card for 'mobile' payments

Barclaycard, part of Barclays Retail and Business Banking, has launched a new way for UK customers to pay with their mobile phones. It’s called Barclaycard PayTag and is effectively a small NFC credit card that can be stuck to the back of a mobile handset.

The sticker will operate as an additional card on a Barclaycard customer’s existing account.

Consumers anticipate mainstream mobile payments by 2020

A new study from the the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project has found almost two-thirds of respondents believe that cash and credit cards will have almost been eliminated by payments via a ‘smart device’ in 2020.

However, the remaining 33% of respondents believed that fears about NFC security and personal information would limit the spread of digital money.

Nokia announces its first NFC Windows Phone device

Nokia has announced that it’ll be producing an NFC version of the Nokia Lumia 610 smartphone.

The Nokia Lumia 610 NFC has been certified for contactless payments with MasterCard PayPass technology and Visa payWave. It’s expected to launch on Orange networks early in the third quarter of 2012.
