New BOKU hybrid account offers mobile NFC and conventional debit card payments

In the last few days we’ve had mobile payment news from Barclays and the Payments Council. Today comes the launch of a product from BOKU that involves a MasterCard debit card and a mobile phone.

BOKU is best known for its work with online merchants and mobile operators, enabling customers to make purchases that are charged to their mobile phone account. It’s now launching a new global mobile payments system that allows shoppers to use their mobile phone as a wallet.

1 in 8 mobile users will have NFC travel tickets on their phones by 2016

Juniper Research anticipates a large increase in the number of people using an NFC-equipped mobile phone as a metro railway or bus ticket over the next few years.

Its latest study found that 13% of North American and Western European mobile users - around one in eight - will use their NFC mobile phone as a tube or bus ticket by 2016, compared with less than 1% today.

Flaws discovered in Google Wallet mobile payment service

Two flaws in the Google Wallet payment service have recently been revealed.

The Zvelo security blog discovered that a ‘rooted’ Google Nexus S could have the encrypted PIN code broken if the phone was stolen, while The Smartphone Champ found that Google Wallet would retain payment card details if the app was reset.
