European mobile roaming charges drop again from today

The European Union’s Roaming Regulations, which were put in place last May, have caused mobile roaming charges in Europe to fall again today. Charges fell last July and are scheduled to fall again next year.

Although maximum prices for voice calls and text messages are falling slightly, there’s also a dramatic drop in the maximum cost of mobile data usage.

New European rules explain what telecom operators should do if they lose consumer information

The European Commission is introducing new rules that define what fixed-line telecom operators, mobile telecom operators and Internet Service Providers should do if their customers’ personal data is lost, stolen or compromised in any way.

These rules, described as ‘technical implementing measures’, are designed to ensure consumers are treated similarly across the EU and to make sure businesses can take a pan-European approach to any problems.

European Commission moves to make 'eCall' car emergency system mandatory from 2015

The European Commission has adopted two proposals that would ensure cars could automatically call the emergency services after a serious accident.

Its ‘eCall’ system automatically calls the 112 emergency number via a mobile connection and passes the vehicle’s location to the emergency services, potentially saving up to 2,500 lives a year and cutting response times by up to 50%.
