Google employee no.20 becomes the new number 1 at Yahoo!

Internet veteran Yahoo! provided last week’s biggest news, at least in terms of press coverage. It appointed Marissa Mayer as its President and Chief Executive Officer, having enticed her away from Google after 13 years.

It's a good week for Yahoo! as it appoints Marissa Mayer - previously Google employee number 20 - to the role of CEO. However, things aren't as cheery at Research In Motion, which has been ordered to pay over $147 million in a patent case.
Meanwhile O2 UK is recovering from a network problem that left around a third of its customers disconnected for almost a day.

Yahoo! has appointed Marissa Mayer as its President and Chief Executive Officer with effect from tomorrow. The company says the move signals a renewed focus on product innovation to drive its user experience and advertising revenue.
Ms Mayer had been at Google for 13 years, most recently as Vice President of Local, Maps, and Location Services.

Yahoo! and Facebook say they’re now working together on a new advertising partnership and are also settling the ongoing patent dispute between the two companies.
In the future we’re likely to see promotions across both Yahoo! and Facebook, along with deeper Facebook integration on the Yahoo! site.
