GetJar acquires Infrinity to make apps easier to find

Independent application store GetJar has acquired Infrinity, a young company that provides 'predictive insights' to help publishers improve their customer lifecycle management.

GetJar plans to use Infrinity's technology to help it improve discovery, recommendations and user experience within its app store.

Opera Mini browser returns to GetJar

Version 6 of the free Opera Mini mobile web browser is now available on the GetJar application store. The news comes less than a month after GetJar removed Opera Mini because it had a link to Opera's own app store.

Opera Mini 6 is available for Android, BlackBerry, J2ME and Symbian platforms.

GetJar expects twice as many Android upgrades as iPhone upgrades

Independent app store GetJar, which has now seen over 1.5 billion downloads, has released data from its recent global survey. Almost 40% of respondents said they'll switch to Android when they purchase their next mobile phone, compared to 18% who intended choosing an iPhone.

Almost 34% of consumers spend at least an hour every day using applications, compared to 49% who spend the same amount of time watching television.

GetJar raises $25 million in new funding for its app store

GetJar, which describes itself as the world’s largest open app store, has raised $25 million in its latest round of funding.

The company plans to expand its offering to Android publishers while continuing to support other smartphone platforms. In the past year, GetJar has established partnerships with key players including Yahoo!, Sprint, AT&T, Openwave, Rovio, Zynga and Glu Mobile. It's also quadrupled the number of downloads per month and tripled its number of employees.

Millionaire City goes mobile on Android phones

Digital Chocolate, the company behind the Millionaire City and MMA Pro Fighter games on Facebook, is now launching the games on Android devices. Millionaire City was the second fastest growing game on Facebook in 2010.

The company is debuting the Android versions of its games on independent app store GetJar.
