Following hot on the heels of IDC’s quarterly analysis comes a report from ABI Research.
They’ve estimated that 390 million mobile phones were shipped in the fourth quarter of 2010, up 15.6% year-on-year, resulting in an annual total of 1.36 billion.

Taiwanese smartphone producer HTC says it sold 24.6 million phones last year, 111% up from the 2009 figure.
Another 8.5 million devices are expected to be sold during the first quarter of 2011.

The GSMA has announced the nominees for the 16th Annual Global Mobile Awards. The winners will be announced at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 15th February 2011.
In total, 115 companies have been nominated in ten categories.

TomTom and HTC have done a deal that'll put navigation and location solutions on HTC smartphones. The new HTC Locations mapping application – preinstalled on the new HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z smartphones, with other devices expected to be added in the future – will come preloaded with TomTom’s maps. The option of turn-by-turn navigation can be purchased through HTC Locations or on HTCSense.com

The story so far: Apple sues HTC (while having a go at Android as well). HTC makes friends with Microsoft. Microsoft attacks Motorola. And now Motorola asks a judge to invalidate the anti-Android patents that Apple is using against HTC. Oh, and as we mentioned recently, Motorola is taking its own legal action against Apple.
