Deutsche Telekom CEO to leave next year

René Obermann, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, is planning to leave the company at the end of December next year. He’s worked at DT for 16 years and spent the last seven in charge.

Current Chief Financial Officer Timotheus Höttges will become deputy CEO next month and will take over as CEO as from January 2014.

Telefonica chooses Nokia Siemens Networks to prepare O2 UK for 4G

Telefónica UK, which operates the O2 network, has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks to prepare it for 4G LTE roll-out in London and the South East of England.

It follows a 12-month trial of LTE technology across parts of London.

Windows Phone expected to be the fastest-growing mobile OS in the next 5 years

A new research report from Analysys Mason predicts that Windows Phone will become the fastest-growing smartphone operating system in the next five years. However, it will still only have a single-digit percentage share of the smartphone market in 2017.

Last year, Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS was shipped in 11 million devices. In 2017 this figure is expected to reach 136 million units; approximately the same number of Apple devices shipped in 2012.

Legal action ends with new patent agreement between Nokia and RIM

Nokia has agreed a new patent licensing deal with Research In Motion, enabling RIM to use Nokia’s patented technology on its BlackBerry handsets.

Full details are confidential although RIM will pay Nokia a one-off amount and ongoing charges.
