BlackBerry launches 'Classic' smartphone

New QWERTY device has a touchscreen as well

BlackBerry has launched a new smartphone that’s designed as a potential upgrade for BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Curve users. The new BlackBerry Classic - which has a physical QWERTY keyboard and trackpad - promises 60% more screen space, a 50% longer battery life and a faster browser than the BlackBerry Bold 9900.

Specifications include a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, a 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor, 16GB of expandable storage, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera and an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera.

Jon Carter of Deutsche Telekom has provided us with his ‘Connected Home’ predictions for 2015:

Connected home products and services rely on different communication standards, be it ZigBee, HomeMatic or Z-Wave. Only platforms which both handle established standards and are able to learn new protocols will hold their ground in the market in 2015. Customers don’t want to be limited in their product choices or care about compatibility issues. Integrating any device into a connected home setup needs to be smooth and simple.

BT Group plc says it’s entered into an exclusivity agreement with Deutsche Telekom and Orange, allowing it to negotiate a possible acquisition of EE’s UK mobile business.

It originally responded to press speculation with a statement last month.

EE’s ‘Orange Wednesdays’ two-for-one cinema ticket deal will end next year.

The offer, which was launched by Orange ten years ago before becoming known as ‘EE Wednesdays’ after Orange and T-Mobile merged, is due to close on 25th February 2015.
