Adobe makes life easier for Apple iPhone and iPad users

Neither the Apple iPhone nor the iPad officially support the Adobe Flash video format; a decision that’s frustrated many users, despite the introduction of alternative browsers.

And neither Adobe nor Apple appeared willing to compromise... until Thursday last week.

GetJar Gold gives away premium Android apps

Independent app store GetJar has introduced a new scheme called GetJar Gold.

It enables users to download premium applications they’d have to pay up to $10 for on other app stores. Unlike other promotional offers, new premium apps are added to GetJar Gold every day and remain on the store.

Mobile ad requests from Apple devices overtake Nokia in Europe

Independent mobile advertising network InMobi has released its latest Mobile Insights Report.

As well as showing that the total number of mobile advertising impressions in Europe grew by 21% from Q1 to Q2 2011, it also revealed that the number of ads shown on Apple devices had overtaken ad impressions on Nokia devices.

Google Maps, Yahoo Weather and Facebook are UK's favourite mobile apps

The GSMA and comScore have just released data showing how UK mobile consumers use mobile applications. The data has been collected in partnership with mobile networks and is the latest in the GSMA Mobile Media Metrics series of reports.

Overall, almost 8.8 million UK mobile phone owners - 40% of the UK's mobile internet users - accessed an app that connected to the internet during April 2011.

On Monday there seemed to be a dearth of mobile news as the industry held its breath and waited for Steve Jobs to speak.

Why there was quite so much breath-holding beats me, because Apple had already told us what the announcement was going to cover. Anyway, we learned about iOS 5, which will arrive in the autumn, and its 200 new features – including a new messaging service called iMessage.
