Fujitsu prepares European smartphone for seniors

Fujitsu Limited is planning its first major smartphone move outside Japan with the STYLISTIC S01, a handset designed for senior users that’ll initially be available via Orange in France from June 2013.

It's an Android-powered device with a 1.4GHz chip, a 4-inch screen and an 8.1-megapixel camera.

It’s aiming to distance itself from Atari S.A., its parent company in France.

EE, Orange and T-Mobile to pre-load security software on Android devices

Partnership between France Telecom-Orange and Lookout

France Telecom-Orange has formed a global strategic partnership with mobile security company Lookout.

From early next year, Orange customers in France, Slovakia, Spain and the UK - along with EE and T-Mobile customers in the UK - will have the Lookout Mobile Security application installed as standard on selected new Android devices. The software will help consumers protect their smartphones against malware, data loss, privacy threats and loss or theft.

Research says mobile phones are now the 'first screen' for teenagers

New research conducted by TNS on behalf of Orange in the UK, France and Spain, has revealed the different ways that teenagers and adults use mobile media. Orange Exposure 2012/2013 - the latest in a series of annual reports that started almost five years ago - compares smartphone and tablet usage side-by-side.

The report found that 83% of teenagers in the UK had a smartphone, while BlackBerry penetration amongst teenagers in the UK was twice as high as the overall mobile media user population.

Conventional mobile base stations now outnumbered by femtocells and other small cell devices

A new report produced by Informa Telecoms & Media and published by the Small Cell Forum shows that the number of ‘small cell’ devices worldwide now exceeds the total number of traditional mobile base stations.

Small cells - femtocells, picocells, metrocells and microcells - are low-power wireless access points that are managed by mobile operators. They can offer mobile coverage in situations where conventional base stations aren’t practical.
