Dolby Laboratories has filed patent infringement lawsuits against Research In Motion, claiming that RIM is using Dolby's digital audio compression technology in some of its BlackBerry smartphones and its PlayBook tablets without having obtained licences.
The legal action has been filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California and the District Court of Mannheim in Germany.

Mobile social gaming company Scoreloop has been acquired by Research In Motion.
Scoreloop, which offers a free software development kit that helps game developers, will continue its cross-platform approach but promises an 'unparalleled' approach to BlackBerry devices.

The latest Ipsos MediaCT Technology Tracker survey shows that 31% of British adults own a smartphone, which is a dramatic increase from 13% at the beginning of last year.
The increase is highest amongst under 35s, where 48% of men and 40% of women now own smartphones.

RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook will launch in the UK on Thursday 16th June 2011, with pricing expected to start at £399 for the 16GB tablet.
The 7-inch PlayBook was first revealed in September and was released in the USA last month.
