A man from Harrow has been fined and given an evening curfew after pleading guilty to wasting police time.
Pedro Barreto had claimed his mobile phone was stolen during a mugging last November but later admitted making up the story in order to claim on his phone insurance.

India’s Supreme Court has ruled that Vodafone isn’t liable to pay taxes on its acquisition of Hutchison Essar in 2007. The country’s tax authorities had claimed a total of around £2.8 billion was due in taxes and penalties.
This appeal in the Supreme Court followed a High Court defeat for Vodafone in 2010.

Google, Intel and Microsoft have all reported financial results for the last three months of 2011.
Intel, whose report also marked the end of its financial year, posted quarterly revenue of $13.9 billion (up 21% year-on-year) and net income of $3.4 billion (up 6% year-on-year).

The International Telecommunications Union, which is the United Nations agency for IT and telecoms, has confirmed the specifications for next-generation mobile technologies. This will be known as IMT-Advanced and will include ‘LTE-Advanced’ and ‘WirelessMAN-Advanced’ (which is also known as Mobile WiMAX Release 2).
Although WiMAX, LTE and HSPA+ are often described as a ‘4G’ service, the ITU sees IMT-Advanced as being the true fourth-generation evolution.
