Online retailers see UK mobile visitors double since last year

Online research company comScore has published the latest figures from its comScore MobiLens service.

It shows that 5.8% of mobile subscribers in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK - a total of 13.5 million people - have accessed online retail sites recently. That's an overall 80% increase from 2010.

TAG Heuer announces the first Swiss luxury smartphone

Swiss watch manufacturer TAG Heuer has announced what it's calling "the first Swiss luxury touchscreen smartphone".

The TAG Heuer LINK runs v2.2 of the Android operating system and follows in the footsteps of the MERIDIIST, the TAG Heuer luxury phone produced by French manufacturer ModeLabs in 2008.

BlackBerry Messenger now available from within applications

Research in Motion has announced that BBM - the BlackBerry Messenger instant messaging service - is now going to be available from within certain applications.

The new version 6 of BBM will work with 'BBM connected' apps , enabling users to interact with friends from within the app itself. For example, a BBM connected game would let users chat in real-time while the game is being played.

Samsung profits drop but mobiles do well

Samsung Electronics has announced its profits for the second quarter of 2011.

Revenue was up 4% year-on-year to 39.44 trillion Korean Won (£22.8 billion), while consolidated net income was down 18% year-on-year to 3.51 trillion KRW. Consolidated operating profit for the quarter was 3.75 trillion KRW, down from the company's record figure in Q2 2010.

A quarter of US mobiles soon expected to be on prepay deals

Although most UK mobile networks are reporting around half of their customers use 'pay as you go' mobile phones, the figures are still substantially smaller in the USA. However, the number of US prepay subscribers is increasing.

The New Millennium Research Council think-tank reports that the total number of prepaid 'no-contract' mobile subscriptions in the US will account for one out of four mobile subscriptions by the end of this year.
