New study finds no increased cancer risk for children using mobile phones

We have a new "mobile phone cancer" report to read - but, despite the headline, it offers no concrete reassurance or firm proof.

The main problem, as we've said on many occasions, is that proving 'absolute safety' is nigh-on impossible... particularly when the technology and the usage patterns keep changing.

Vringo and Zlango merging to create new mobile social media business

It's a match made in an odd kind of dictionary: Vringo and Zlango are getting together.

Vringo provides software platforms for mobile social and video applications - video ringtones, for example - while Zlango is a mobile messaging company that can add multimedia content to standard text-based messages.

Virgin Media reports best mobile customer growth for more than 3 years

Virgin Media has announced half-year and quarterly results today.

Overall, revenue is up 3.9% for the half-year and up 2.2% for the quarter; the quarterly figure is £986 million. Operating income is up 64.5% for the half-year and up 69.5% to £135 million for the quarter.

Smart meters to dominate machine-to-machine connections, says report

In five years' time, smart metering will account for over 40% of the 400 million machine-to-machine connections around the world. That's the prediction of a new Juniper Research report.

Although M2M smart meters don't make as much money per connection as other M2M segments, Juniper says the volume of smart meter deployment will means it's still an important revenue stream.

Mobile gaming will be worth £10 billion in 2016

Revenue from mobile gaming will exceed $16 billion worldwide in 2016, according to a report from ABI Research.

That's three times more than this year's anticipated total, which isn't expected to reach $5 billion.
