Google has turned the Google Books service – launched in 2004 as a way of indexing your own library of books – into a fully-fledged eBookstore. The bookshop service is currently only available in the USA.

UK mobile industry newspaper Mobile News has announced its plans for next year’s Mobile News Awards. The award ceremony will take place in London on 17th March 2011.

Vodafone has rolled its mobile money transfer service into Qatar and the Philippines, with plans to cover Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The service was launched in Kenya as M-PESA and is already available in several other countries, with 20 million people using it globally.

Campaign group UK Uncut, which says the government is letting rich individuals and corporations avoid tax while making massive cuts to public services, has been campaigning today. Its targets included Vodafone and the Arcadia group of retail businesses.

Five men have been jailed this week for a total of 15 years after a £17 million ‘missing trader’ VAT fraud. A sixth is awaiting sentencing. HM Revenue & Customs conducted a four-and-a-half year investigation that involved mobile phone accessories, SIM cards and digital memory.
