ABI Research has calculated that a million femtocells will have been shipped by the end of 2010 – and the forecast for 2015 is for more than 54 million femtocell shipments. Femtocells were initially seen as 'boosters' for mobile consumers with poor home coverage but are now being used in business situations and outdoors as well.

O2 is looking for a new mobile money partner after ending its partnership with NatWest, according to a report in Mobile News. NatWest will continue to provide banking services for the Cash Manager and Load & Go cards until a new provider is chosen. O2 Money, the brand behind the two cards, was launched last summer.

Mark Hurd – the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of HP – resigned on Friday. He's been replaced on an interim basis by the company's CFO, Cathie Lesjak. Ms Lesjak says she doesn't want the permanent CEO role but will serve as interim CEO until a new chief executive has been found.

Hutchison Whampoa has reported that its profits for the first half of 2010 were up 12% year-on-year to HK$6.45 billion (around £521 million). Losses in the 3 Group, which runs a number of mobile networks including Three UK, were down 82% to HK$998 million. Hutchison Whampoa now has 27.8 million 3G mobile customers worldwide – a 6% annual rise – including over 5 million mobile broadband users.

News Corp., the media company run by Rupert Murdoch, is reported to be considering the sale of its Fox Mobile Group businesses. Fox Mobile includes Jamster, which offers ringtones and other mobile content via the Jamba brand. News Corp took control of Jamster in 2006 and bought it in 2008.
