This year the number of mobile video viewers in the USA will jump by almost 30% to 23.9 million people, according to a report from eMarketer.com. That's 9.7% of all mobile phone owners and 7.7% of the total population. By 2013, those figures will double to 15% of the population (and 18.5% of mobile owners).

Visa Europe has launched a contactless mobile payment system in Turkey for Akbank customers. It uses the DeviceFidelity 'In2Pay' NFC microSD card fitted to compatible BlackBerry devices. Other smartphones will be supported in the future.

Mobile technology company Silent Communication has licensed its Visual Voice Mail software to Sony Ericsson. This means that Sony Ericsson now has the ability to offer 'visual voicemail' on every phone in its range, regardless of operating system and network operator.

The Carphone Warehouse has launched a music streaming service called 'Music Anywhere'. It's been created for them by Catch Media and will cost £29.99 per year. This fee lets users 'stream' all the music tracks from their personal collection via The Carphone Warehouse’s online My Hub portal to a desktop computer, laptop, smartphone or PDA.

ABI Research has calculated that 3.8 billion mobile handsets will contain mobile web browsers by 2015. That's slightly more than 60% of all mobile phones in 2015… and is double today's penetration of mobile browsers. In addition, the number of full internet browsers is expected to exceed that of proxy-based browsers in 2012.
