Chinese telecoms company ZTE Corporation says net profit for the first quarter of 2011 was up 15.86% to RMB 127 million (around £11.9 million). Operating revenue increased by 13.8% to RMB 15,085 million.
Sales revenue from terminal products grew by 51% year-on-year.

Apple has announced financial results for its fiscal 2011 second quarter today.
In the three-month period until 26th March 2011 the company sold 18.65 million iPhones, up 113% year-on-year, and 4.69 million iPads.

Disk drive producer Seagate Technology and Samsung Electronics have expanded their existing relationship.
The new agreement will see Samsung combining its hard disk drive operations into Seagate and receiving 'significant' equity ownership in Seagate. Samsung will provide Seagate with semiconductor products for use in a variety of Seagate products, while Seagate will supply disk drives to Samsung for PCs, notebooks and consumer electronics.

Two new calling services for Facebook's voice chat feature have been announced today by mobile network operators.
In the USA, T-Mobile has created a new brand called Bobsled and a PC-based application for Facebook. It enables any Facebook users to call their Facebook friends free from a PC and to send voice messages to their friends. And here in the UK, virtual network giffgaff has created a free Facebook chat app for the iPhone.

ABI Research has calculated that the Apple iPad accounted for 85% of media tablets shipped in 2010.
In second place was the Samsung Galaxy Tab with about 8% market share, followed by the Archos Internet Tablet range at 2%.
