Nokia quarterly results released

As well as confirming its agreement with Microsoft is now signed, Nokia has also released its first quarter 2011 interim report today.

Net sales were up 9% year-on-year but down 18% on the previous quarter to 10.4 billion Euro (around £9.1 billion).

Report says shipments of GPS-enabled mobile phones almost doubled last year

Global shipments of GPS-enabled GSM/WCDMA handsets increased almost 97% in 2010 to 295 million units, according to a new report from Berg Insight.

Shipments of GPS-equipped phones are expected to reach 940 million units in 2015, a compound annual growth rate of 28.8%.

Nokia and Microsoft sign their partnership agreement

Nokia and Microsoft have signed their partnership agreement today. The planned partnership was first announced in February.

The two companies say they've made "significant progress" on the development of the first Nokia products incorporating the Windows Phone platform. Nokia has also started porting key applications and services to operate on Windows Phone.

Mobile data traffic moving to WiFi and Femtocells

New figures from Juniper Research suggest that 63% of data traffic generated by smartphones, tablets and feature phones will be carried by fixed networks - via WiFi and Femtocells - by 2015.

This annual amount of mobile data traffic 'offloaded' from mobile networks is expected to reach nearly 9000 petabytes by 2015, the equivalent of 11 billion movie downloads.

Three UK tops the Ofcom complaints chart for mobile telecom providers

Ofcom has published details of the consumer telecoms complaints it's received between October 2010 and February 2011.

The regulator receives an average of 450 complaints per day about fixed-line, broadband and mobile telecoms providers. Issues include mis-selling, billing errors, lack of service and customer service problems.
