The Mozilla Foundation has announced details of two new smartphones that’ll run the Firefox OS mobile operating system. Both have been designed for use by developers and aren’t targeted at consumers.
The phones are being developed by Spanish mobile business Geeksphone in partnership with Telefonica
Geeksphone’s Keon Developer Preview Phone will use a 1GHz Qualcomm chip and has a 3.5-inch screen, while the Peak has a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and a 4.3-inch screen. Both are expected to be available next month.
Unlike other mobile platforms, the Firefox mobile OS is built using open web standards. This offers a number of benefits, including the ability for developers to create apps that have more control over phone functions than other operating systems allow.
