Last week at The Fonecast: 12th December 2011

Mark Bridge writes:

With less than a fortnight until Christmas, it’s probably time to order the turkey and start thinking about gifts. What could be a better present than being given your very own mobile operating system?

That’s what’s happening over at HP, which is making its webOS software available to the open source community. The big question now is whether developers will respond with “lovely, just what I wanted” or a slightly embarrassed “oh, I’ve already got one of those.”

Three UK introduces 'The One Plan' to transform mobile phone tariffs

Three.co.ukThree UK is introducing a new tariff that's intended to "challenge and change mobile phone pricing in the UK", according to the network. It's called The One Plan and includes a monthly allowance of two thousand 'any network' minutes, five thousand Three-to-Three minutes, five thousand text messages and 1GB of data for £25 a month as a SIM-only price plan.

Kevin Russell, Three's Chief Executive, said "For individual consumers this plan is about peace of mind.  For the industry it's a game changer. The One Plan is for everyone that wants to get the most from their smartphone and yet keep within their monthly allowance. We’ve fought for changes to the rules to make this kind of deal possible.  With change in the air we believe it's time to act and to bring to the market the benefits of the larger bundles of calls, texts and data we have promised to UK consumers."

"With a clear direction from Ofcom on Mobile Termination Rates we believe, for the first time, that we can offer an inclusive package for smartphone users that covers all of their communications needs at a market-moving price point."
