Lebara MVNO could be sold

The Lebara virtual network could be sold or floated on the stock exchange, according to press reports.

It has appointed the Royal Bank of Scotland to "explore future strategic opportunities".

Offline maps added to Google Maps for Android

Google has added an experimental feature called 'Download map area' to Google Maps for Android.

It allows customers to save a 10-mile radius of any chosen place before arriving there, enabling them to reduce data costs or prepare for locations without mobile connectivity.

eBay acquiring mobile payment company Zong to work with PayPal

Online marketplace eBay, which already owns PayPal, has now agreed to acquire California-based mobile payment service Zong for around $240 million.

Zong offers 'direct carrier billing', enabling consumers to pay for purchases using their mobile phone number. The appropriate payment amount is then added to the customer's mobile account.
