PayPal prepares mobile-connected Chip and PIN device for the UK

eBay-owned online payment service PayPal is introducing a new Chip & PIN device for UK retailers. It’s called PayPal Here - the same name as the company’s plug-in reader for swipe cards in the USA - and is designed to work in conjunction with a smartphone app.

The device is being made available to select UK businesses in the next few months before a full UK launch this summer.

Google announces touchscreen Chromebook Pixel, although 4G version is just for USA

Google has announced the latest version of its Chromebook computers, adding a high-quality touch-sensitive display and the option of 4G connectivity.

The Chromebook is a laptop-type device that runs on Google’s Chrome operating system and relies on cloud storage.

ZTE prepares new smartphones using NVIDIA Tegra 4 processors

Just a couple of days after NVIDIA announced its new 4G-enabled Tegra 4i mobile processor - and only a few weeks after the original quad-core Tegra 4 was announced - Chinese manufacturer ZTE has confirmed it’s already working on smartphones powered by the new NVIDIA processors.

The first of these devices is expected to go on sale in China by the middle of 2013.

Only a third of consumers are comfortable sharing personal data with an app

Just 37% of consumers are comfortable sharing personal data with an app, according to a new survey. The MEF Global Privacy Report 2013, which was carried out in partnership with On Device Research, asked 9,500 people from ten countries about the use of personal information by mobile app providers.

However, most consumers believe that security around data is robust; only 18% said they weren’t confident that their personal information was being protected.
