GSMA aims for 'carbon neutral' growth in the mobile industry

The GSMA, which represents almost 800 mobile operators in 219 countries, has launched a Green Manifesto for the mobile industry. It sets out how the mobile industry intends to lower its energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions per mobile phone user.

The aims include:

Reducing the total global greenhouse gas emissions per connection by 40% by 2020 compared to 2009. The intended result is 'carbon neutral' growth; as the number of mobile connections rises, total emissions will remain constant at 245 megatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.

Everyone’s selling Android phones… but who’s selling Android?

Mark Bridge writes:

Samsung. Huawei. Acer. HTC. Motorola. LG. Toshiba. Sony Ericsson. INQ. Dell. They’re all after a slice of the Android cake. (The Android cake is an éclair at the moment. Not particularly good for slicing. But I digress).

And my, what advertisements we’ve seen. Most recently Motorola has been knocking the iPhone while HTC has been playing with marker pens.

But those ad campaigns are mainly about manufacturers and phones. As you’d expect, really. Not about Android.
