The CES consumer electronics trade show in Las Vegas opens to the public today following a media-only day yesterday.
Although next month’s Mobile World Congress takes away some of the focus on mobile devices, there’s still a lot of attention paid to handset announcements.

Motorola Mobility has announced preliminary results for the fourth quarter of 2011, with full financial results due on 26th January 2012.
It says it shipped around 10.5 million mobile devices in the quarter, of which approximately 5.3 million were smartphones.

The US International Trade Commission has ruled that certain Motorola Mobility products infringe on a Microsoft patent. Microsoft had said that several of its patents were affected, although the ITC said Motorola has only violated one of them.
This is an initial determination; a final decision is expected within the next six months.

Motorola Mobility has confirmed that the MOTOACTV fitness and music device - announced last month at the same time as the new RAZR smartphone - is coming to the UK next month.
It’ll be stocked by sports retailer Sweatshop from the beginning of December. Current pricing is £249.99.

Motorola Mobility shareholders have voted to approve the company’s proposed merger with Google, which was first announced in August.
The merger is currently expected to be completed in early 2012.
